- Its publication, in 1959, was based on two earlier SAG publications:
- THE SCREEN GUILD MAGAZINE (March 1934 to March 1938) and
- SCREEN ACTOR (April 1938 to February 1947).
- 1959-1971: bimonthly.
- 1972-1979: quarterly.
- 1980-1982: semi-annual.
- 1982-1985: ceased publication (was replaced by SCREEN ACTOR NEWS).
- In August 1984 an extra 50th Anniversary issue was published.
- Resumed printing in 1986.
- 1986-1994: semi-annual.
- Since 1994 is published quarterly.
- A special 60th Anniversary issue was published in March 1995 as Vol 34 # 1.
